Wednesday Kick-off-April 29

In an effort to make the Heart of Virginia Festival better than ever this year, there will be a lunchtime kick-off party on Wednesday, April 29th. The Main Street Amphitheatre (Old State Theatre) is the place to be between 12:00 noon and 1:30 p.m. Come with your friends and co-workers to eat lunch and hear the music of The Love Twins. Ronald and Donald Smith are proven favorites around Farmville.

You can "brown bag" it or purchase your lunch from one of Farmville's local restaurants. Citizens Bank and Trust Company is sponsoring this year's kick-off party and will provide free drinks for the first 250 people. So come out to the Main Street Amphitheatre and see for yourself why this year's Heart of Virginia Festival will be better than ever!

First Fridays Opener-May 1

First Fridays by the River are a summertime favorite event for area residents. This year will be no different with the first concert being held on the Friday of The Heart of Virginia Festival. Bring your family and friends to the banks of the Appomattox River behind Green Front warehouses and enjoy the fun. The concert will begin at 5:30 with music and lots of your favorite foods and beverages.

The famous Fat Ammons Band, a long-time favorite, will perform on stage until 8:30. Blue Ridge Beverage Distributing is providing Miller Beer products for anyone over 21 years of age, and Domino's Pizza and Farmville/Prince Edward Youth League will be set up to deliver great food at reasonable prices.

The Festival is proud to have Amerilube, Fourth Street Motor Company, Rug Rats, Hubbard-Lash Insurance, and the Law Office of Don Blessing sponsoring this event, so admission is free of charge to everyone. Come see why this year's Heart of Virginia Festival is going to be one of the best.

Longwood Center for the Visual Arts

The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts, located on the corner of Main and Third Streets in Farmville since 1993, showcases a permanent art collection and special exhibitions-all inviting student, faculty, and community participation in the visual arts. The special exhibitions on view during the Heart of Virginia are "Shattering the Southern Stereotype: Jack Beal, Nell Blaine, Dorothy Gillespie, Sally Mann, and Cy Twombly" and the "Longwood College Senior Art Exhibition."

Museum staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about the exhibitions. In addition, the Center for the Visual Arts will have a display at the Outdoor Art Show titled "Heart & Soil: Southside Folklife." This exhibition is a result of initial fieldwork sponsored by the Piedmont Humanities Council and funding from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy and the National Endowment for the Arts Folkart Program.
