The Heart of Virginia Festival is an outdoor extravaganza that includes a fine arts juried exhibition, a crafts show, a children's festival, all-day entertainment at several different stages, a wide variety of festival foods, and 10-K and 1-K races. The event takes place in downtown Farmville during the day, and in the evening moves out to the Farmville Airport for barbecue, several live bands, and fireworks.

The Festival is a community-wide effort, sustained by many volunteers, contributors, and participants from throughout the region. Since 1979, the Town of Farmville has graciously served as its host.
