Create Your Own Pin-Back Buttons
With origins that go back to the 1800s, the pin-back button has displayed many images and is used for many purposes. Images include comic characters, political candidates, tourist attractions, and logos. Pin-back buttons are used as a means of identification for both individuals and businesses. They are fun to wear for celebrations, holidays, and seasons. Children can create their own 20th Anniversary Heart of Virginia Festival commemorative badge. Pre-cut circles will be available for participants to draw their own designs. A volunteer will put the parts together on the button-making press. Additional materials, such as feathers, sequins, and ribbons, can be added to embellish the badge to make it truly a one-of-a-kind creation. Children can make their button fancy or choose to make a personal statement.
The yellow and white Children's Art Tent is located along High Street on the Lancaster Building lawn. This activity is free.
Tidewater Pipes and Drums (great for adults, too!)At the Weyanoke, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The Tidewater Pipes and Drums offers a full range of authentic Scottish music and pageantry. The sight of the musicians in full Highland regalia, the haunting skirl of the Great Highland Bagpipe, and the beat of the drums makes for an event which will long be remembered and treasured.
