Around Longwood's Rotunda and Colonnade, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Sponsored in part by Davenport & Company LLC
Situated along High Street on the shaded lawns in front of the Longwood College Rotunda, the 24th Outdoor Fine Arts Show begins at 9 a.m. The works of many artists will be on exhibit for show and sale and will be professionally judged for over $2,500 in prize money. The award ceremony begins around 2 p.m.
In addition to the competition awards there will be several Merit and Purchase Awards, including the Hampden-Sydney College Fine Arts Award, the Buckingham Arts Council Awards, and the Longwood Visual Arts Merit Award. These awards total over $500.
The Art Show began 24 years ago and was so successful that four years later the Heart of Virginia Festival grew up around it. It has remained the mainstay of the Festival, drawing artists from up and down the east coast and providing high-quality art to Festival goers from throughout central Virginia.
A reception for the artists, sponsored by Central Virginia Arts, will follow the show.

For the first time ever the Heart of Virginia Festival will indulge your palate with a wide array of wines from Barboursville Winery. This will be an opportunity to replenish your stock of the excellent Farmville Bicentennial Wine. Also sample the other excellent selections from Barboursville Winery, one of Virginia's finest wine vendors, available from Circle Sales. This event will last from 11:00 until 3:00 in front of Granger Hall.
Back in Bluegrass
Performing at the Longwood Bicentennial Park this year is Back in Bluegrass. We are glad to have the group back with us again. They bring in many years of experience in bluegrass, performing a full spectrum from the old traditional to the "new grass." Members of the group include David Woodall from Buckingham playing mandolin, Earl Carter of Farmville on banjo, Wilkie Chaffin of Darlington Heights on guitar, and Jack Woodall from Appomattox on upright bass. Four-part harmony is a specialty for this band.
The Southside Jazz Quartet
A local jazz group, The Southside Jazz Quartet will be performing at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. around Longwood's Rotunda.
